BSG SQS, UUM
Content analysis is one of the option in analysis human behaviour. Normally, this technique is used to gather and analyse the content of text. The technique refers to communicated words, meanings, pictures, symbols, ideas, themes or any message. The text can be communicated in written, visual or spoken media. Content analysis allows the researcher to summarise the content, such as messages or meaning, in a source of communication.
Currently, content analysis can be used as a reliable and applicable technique to analyse text in various social media such as Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Whatsapp. It is also known as non-reactive analysis because this technique will not be influenced by the process of placing words, messages or symbols by the researcher who analyses the content (Neuman, 2006). With content analysis, a researcher may compare and analyse media content across many texts. It can be done by using qualitative techniques such as charts or tables, in which the analysis can simplifies the aspects of the text’s content that are hard to see (Neuman, 2006). Nevertheless, analysing text can also be done with quantitative techniques depending on the scope, problem and objectives of the research.
At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- explore the concept of content analysis

- mapping the idea either qualitative or quantitative techniques
